War of the Rings—Chess Set

The War of the Rings chess set is the cornerstone of Royal Selangor's Lord of the Rings collection. It was created by Australian sculptor Dr. Graeme J. Anthony and the craftspeople at the Sculptors Workshop in Melbourne Australia.

The chess board is 19" square, and is made from tropical hardwood with pewter inlays.

War of the Rings—Chess Pieces

All chess pieces are cast in pewter. The white, or (good) side, has a satin pewter finish while the black, or (evil) side, has been copper plated and has what is known as a florentine bronze finish.

There are only enough evil characters to mann the ramparts of the black side. Don't let that fool you. There is enough treachery there to overcome even the most strident opposition from either of the white sides.

I hesitate to say that the alternate white side is made up of lesser characters from the good side. Although each of these characters may have played a smaller part in the quest, they are, never the less, important to the overall story.
